Sabellids [Sabellidae]

Description

Sabellidae, commonly known as fan worms or feather dusters, is a family of marine polychaete worms. Members of this family are characterized by their long, segmented bodies and a crown of feathery tentacles, which they use for filter feeding. These tentacles are brightly colored and can be retracted into a protective tube, which the worm secretes. Sabellids are found in a variety of marine environments, from shallow to deep waters, and are known for their role in the marine ecosystem as filter feeders, cleaning water by removing suspended particles.
