Pilgrim Oysters [Isognomonidae]
Description
Isognomonidae, known as pilgrim oysters, are a family of bivalves that resemble the true oysters but belong to the order Pteriida. They are found in tropical and subtropical seas, often attached to rocks, mangroves, or other hard substrates in intertidal and shallow subtidal zones. Pilgrim oysters have thin, relatively flat shells, and some species are harvested for food or their shell material. They play a role in their ecosystems by filtering water and thus contributing to water clarity and quality.
