Phycid Hakes [Phycidae]

Description

Phycidae, commonly known as phycid hakes, are a family of marine fish that resemble the true hakes (Merlucciidae). They are found in the Atlantic Ocean and Mediterranean Sea, often on muddy bottoms at varying depths. Phycid hakes have elongated bodies, two dorsal fins, and are generally small to medium in size. They are important to some local fisheries and are targeted for their delicate flesh, although they are less known compared to their relatives in the Merlucciidae family.
