Mackerel Sharks [Lamnidae]
Description
The Lamnidae family, also known as mackerel sharks, includes some of the most well-known sharks, such as the great white shark (Carcharodon carcharias), the shortfin mako (Isurus oxyrinchus), and the longfin mako (Isurus paucus). Mackerel sharks are characterized by their torpedo-shaped bodies, large gill slits, and a unique ability to maintain a body temperature higher than the surrounding water, making them highly efficient predators.
