Gulper Sharks [Centrophoridae]

Description

Gulper Sharks, belonging to the family Centrophoridae, are deep-sea sharks known for their large mouths and extendable stomachs, allowing them to swallow prey half their size. They have long, slender bodies and large, greenish eyes, adapted to the low-light conditions of their deep-water habitats. Found in oceans worldwide, these sharks are often caught as bycatch in deep-sea fisheries. Their biology and ecology remain poorly understood due to the depths at which they live.
