Flatheads [Platycephalidae]
Description
Platycephalidae, or flatheads, are distinguished by their flattened heads and bodies, which allow them to blend into the sandy or muddy bottoms where they reside. They are predominantly found in the Indo-Pacific region. These ambush predators feed on smaller fish and crustaceans, lying in wait, buried under the substrate with only their eyes protruding.
