Fire Worms [Amphinomidae]

Description

Amphinomidae, known as fire worms, are a family of polychaete worms recognizable for their bright, often red or orange, bristles which can inflict painful stings if touched. These worms are primarily marine and can be found on coral reefs, under rocks, and buried in sand or mud. Their diet mainly consists of detritus and small marine organisms. The presence of neurotoxic bristles makes them formidable predators and a deterrence against predators.
