Finback Catsharks [Proscylliidae]
Description
Proscylliidae, or finback catsharks, comprise a small family of slender, small-bodied sharks found in tropical and subtropical oceans worldwide. They are characterized by their unique dorsal fin placement closer to the tail compared to other sharks, giving them their common name. These sharks are benthic, living near the sea floor, and feed on small fish and invertebrates. Despite their widespread distribution, finback catsharks are rarely encountered by humans due to their deep-sea habitat and elusive nature.
