False Catsharks [Pseudotriakidae]
Description
Pseudotriakidae, or false catsharks, are a small family of deep-sea sharks known for their soft, flabby bodies and elongated tails. Unlike most other sharks, false catsharks have a very low reproductive rate, giving birth to only a few well-developed young at a time. They are found in deep waters worldwide, often in depths exceeding 1,000 meters. Their appearance and deep-sea habitat make them one of the more mysterious and less-studied families within the order Carcharhiniformes.
