Description

Synaphobranchidae, or cutthroat eels, are named for the distinctive gill openings located beneath their throats. These deep-sea eels have elongated bodies, small scales, and large mouths. They are adapted to life in the abyssal depths, feeding on a variety of small fish and invertebrates.
