Description

The Achiridae family, commonly known as American soles, includes species mainly found in the tropical and subtropical waters of the western Atlantic, from the Gulf of Mexico down to Argentina. These flatfish are generally small and inhabit sandy or muddy bottoms, where they feed on small invertebrates. Their body shape is elongated, and their eyes are small, adapted to their bottom-dwelling lifestyle.
