Viridescent Parrotfish [Calotomus viridescens]
Description
The Viridescent Parrotfish, or Calotomus viridescens, is found in the eastern central Pacific Ocean. Its habitat includes rocky reefs and coral reefs where it grazes on algae. As the name suggests, it is mostly green in color and has the characteristic parrot-like beak. Like other parrotfish, it plays an important role in the health of coral reefs and it also changes sex from female to male during its life cycle.
