Description
Verany's Lanternfish, or Symbolophorus veranyi, is a species of lanternfish that inhabits the Mediterranean Sea and eastern Atlantic Ocean. They inhabit depths of 200-1,000 meters during the day, while migrating near the surface at night. Verany's Lanternfish are bioluminescent, using light emitted from photophores for signaling. They are characterized by a slender, elongated body, large eyes, and a series of photophores along the body.
