Variegated Sole [Microchirus variegatus]
Description
The Variegated Sole is a species of flatfish in the family Soleidae. It can reach a maximum length of 40cm, but commonly it is about 20cm. Its body color varies from brown to greenish, with irregular light and dark marks. It is found in subtropical waters in the eastern Atlantic Ocean from the Bay of Biscay to Angola, including the Mediterranean Sea and the Black Sea. It inhabits sandy or muddy bottoms and feeds on small invertebrates.
