Vanilla clam [Malacosaccus vanillae]

Description
The Vanilla clam, scientifically known as Malacosaccus vanillae, is a species of marine bivalve mollusk in the family Hiatellidae. This species can be found in the Northwest Pacific ocean, from the Gulf of Alaska to Southern California. They primarily inhabit intertidal and shallow subtidal zones, making their homes in sand, mud, and gravel. The Vanilla clam is distinguishable by its elongated, oval shell which is white to light brown in color, and has a smooth, glossy surface.
