Description
The Southern Chimaera, scientifically known as Vanstraelenia chilensis, is a species of fish in the Chimaeridae family. It is a deep-water species found in the southeast Pacific Ocean, primarily off the coast of Chile. It can be identified by its elongated, tapering body and a long, thin, whip-like tail. It has large, green eyes, and a venomous spine in front of the dorsal fin. This species is oviparous, with females laying eggs in leathery cases that they deposit on the sea floor.
