Description
The Southern Bottlenose Whale is a species of beaked whale that resides in the Southern Hemisphere, mainly in the cool temperate to Antarctic waters. It is similar in appearance to its northern counterpart, but it is slightly smaller, with males reaching lengths of 7.5 meters and females reaching 8.2 meters. The species is known for its deep diving capabilities, feeding on a diet of squid and fish. Southern Bottlenose Whales are typically found in small groups, but solitary individuals have also been observed.
