Description
The Smooth Box Crab, or Artacama crosnieri, is a marine crab species that is part of the Calappidae family. Unlike its relative Artacama proboscidea, this species has a smooth carapace, typically of a light brown or cream color. It is found in the Indian Ocean, especially along the western coast of Madagascar. The Smooth Box Crab is a benthic species, inhabiting the sandy or muddy seafloor of shallow coastal waters. It's often found in association with sponges and is known to be nocturnal, hiding during the day and becoming more active at night.
