Description
Scolecithricella abyssalis, or the Abyssal Lanternfish, is a deep-sea species found in both the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. This species is distinguished by its small size, bioluminescent photophores, and large eyes adapted to the low light conditions of the deep sea. It usually resides at depths of about 1000 to 4000 meters during the day and migrates upwards at night to feed on plankton.
