Sargassum Fish [Histrio histrio]
Description
The Sargassum fish, Histrio histrio, is a unique species that resides predominantly in floating seaweed. It is a master of camouflage with its brownish color, which matches the Sargassum seaweed where it is usually found. This species has an irregular shape that also helps it blend into its environment. It is known for its unusual method of locomotion, which is achieved by using its pectoral fins to 'walk' along the surface of the seaweed. It is an ambush predator, feeding primarily on small fish and invertebrates that get too close. The Sargassum fish can reach up to 20 cm in length.
