Pheronema Gray [Pheronema Gray, 1870]

Description
Pheronema is a genus of deep-sea sponge found in the North Atlantic and known for its unusual, cup-like shape. The species within this genus are characterized by their spicules, which are formed from silica and often have a unique, needle-like shape. They are typically located in deep-sea environments, often on soft substrates like mud or clay. They have been observed at depths of over 4,000 meters. Due to their deep-sea habitat, little is known about their behavior.
