Panamanian flatnose [Heliotrygon rosai]
Description
The Panamanian flatnose, Heliotrygon rosai, is the other species of freshwater stingray in the family Potamotrygonidae. It is found specifically in the Térraba River in Costa Rica and the Bayano River in Panama. Just like its counterpart, H. rosai has a wide, flat body and a long, pointed snout. It also shares the nocturnal behavior, burying itself during the day and feeding at night on small fish and invertebrates. It is distinguished by a slightly darker coloration than H. gomesi.
