Oval sole [Synapturichthys ovalis]
Description
The oval sole, also known as the ovate sole, is a marine flatfish found in the Indian Ocean and the Western Pacific, from the Red Sea and East Africa to the Philippines, north to southern Japan, and south to Australia. This species is generally oval in shape with a small, pointed head. It is known for its ability to burrow into sandy or muddy substrates in shallow waters. It is mostly nocturnal, feeding on small invertebrates at night.
