North Pacific Lanternfish [Symbolophorus californiensis]
Description
The North Pacific Lanternfish, or Symbolophorus californiensis, is a species of lanternfish. They inhabit the subtropical waters of the North Pacific, typically at depths of 200-300 meters during the day, and near the surface at night. They exhibit typical lanternfish behavior, using their bioluminescent photophores for signaling and camouflage. They have a slender, elongated body with a large head and large eyes, and are typically silver-blue in color.
