Nankeen Night Heron [Nycticorax caledonicus]
Description
The Nankeen Night Heron, also known as the Rufous Night Heron, is a medium-sized heron. It is found in Indonesia, the Philippines, Papua New Guinea, Melanesia, and throughout much of Australia except the arid inland. They are sedentary and nocturnal, preferring to remain in cover during the day. The diet consists mainly of fish, insects, and amphibians.
