Description
The Loimia medusa, commonly known as the Mud Tube Worm, is a species of terebellid annelid worms. It is found in the North Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea, dwelling in shallow subtidal and intertidal zones. The Mud Tube Worm is characterized by a soft, cylindrical body and numerous long, slender tentacles protruding from its head. It constructs a semi-permanent burrow or tube in the sediment, which it uses for protection and as a retreat during low tide.
