Monk Sole [Monochirus hispidus]

Description

The Monk Sole, also known as the 'Hairy Sole', is a species of flatfish in the family Soleidae. It can be found in the eastern Atlantic Ocean, from the British Isles south to Mauritania, including the Mediterranean Sea and the Black Sea. This species resides primarily in sandy or muddy bottoms of coastal waters at depths between 10 and 60 meters. The Monk Sole typically grows to a length of 20 centimeters. A distinguishing feature of this species is that the upper side is uniformly brown and the lower side is white.
