Description
Microsconsia australis, or the Austral Clam, is a marine bivalve mollusk found in the Southern Ocean. This species prefers cold, deep waters and can be found at depths of up to 500 meters. The Austral Clam has a small, rounded shell, typically less than 2 inches in diameter, with a pale yellow to white color. The species is a filter feeder, primarily feeding on phytoplankton.
