Madagascar Pond-Heron [Ardeola idae]
Description
The Madagascar Pond-Heron is a medium-sized heron species that is endemic to Madagascar and the Comoros. It has a white plumage in the breeding season with a golden-orange head and neck. Non-breeding adults and juveniles are brown. It lives in freshwater wetlands, flooded fields and marshes. It is a solitary hunter, often seen standing motionless at the water's edge, waiting to strike at small prey.
