Longspine Squirrelfish [Holocentrus rufus]

Description

The Longspine Squirrelfish, also known as Holocentrus rufus, is a marine species that is found in tropical waters in the western Atlantic Ocean, from North Carolina, USA and Bermuda to Brazil. It is most often found in reefs and rocky areas. It is recognized by its bright red body, large eyes, and long, pointed dorsal spines. This species is nocturnal, spending the day hiding in crevices and coming out to feed on small fish and invertebrates at night.
