Kerguelen Petrel [Lugensa brevirostris]

Description

The Kerguelen Petrel is a solitary seabird that inhabits the southern oceans. Its plumage is uniformly dark brown with a lighter brown underside. It has a short, stout black bill and black legs. Measuring roughly 40 cm in length, the Kerguelen Petrel has a wingspan of up to 1 meter. It nests in colonies on subantarctic islands and feeds mainly on squid, fish, and krill. The Kerguelen Petrel is known for its incredible flying skills, especially in stormy weather.
