Japanese Glass Rope Sponge [Hyalonema japonicum]

Description
The Japanese Glass Rope Sponge, also known as Hyalonema japonicum, is a close relative of Hyalonema sieboldi. Its habitat is similar, residing in deep sea environments and often attached to hard substrates. This species is distinguished by its slightly smaller size and variation in spicule structure. The 'rope' part of the sponge is generally more tightly coiled and may appear more opaque. This species is sedentary and feeds by filtering particles from the water, much like other sponges.
