Hyalonema lusitanicum [Hyalonema lusitanicum]

Description
Hyalonema lusitanicum is a species of glass sponge found in the deep sea. Not much is known about the species due to its deep-sea habitat. However, it is reported to have a similar structure to other glass sponges, with a globular body and a long stem of spicules for anchoring to the sea floor. The species is found in the North Atlantic Ocean, specifically near Portugal, hence its name 'lusitanicum'. Like other sponges, it is a filter-feeder.
