Hawaii mullet [Crenimugil crenilabis forskjali]
Description
The Hawaii mullet, or Crenimugil crenilabis forskjali, is a subspecies of the Sicklefin mullet. It is endemic to the Hawaiian Islands, where it is found in coastal areas and brackish waters such as estuaries and lagoons. Like its close relatives, the Hawaii mullet is omnivorous, feeding on algae, detritus, and small invertebrates. It has elongated, sickle-shaped pectoral fins, similar to the Sicklefin mullet, but it is distinguished by its slightly different coloration and markings.
