Flat-Clawed Hermit Crab [Pagurus pollicaris]

Description
A North American species of hermit crab found along the Atlantic coast. They are notable for their large, flat-tipped claws which they use for defense and manipulation of food. They inhabit a range of gastropod shells and are commonly found in shallow, intertidal zones.
