Eyelight fish [Photoblepharon palpebratum]
Description
The Eyelight fish is a species of flashlight fish that can grow up to 13 cm in length. It is noted for its large eyes and bioluminescent light organ located beneath each eye. The Eyelight fish inhabits the Western Pacific Ocean and Indian Ocean, and is known to dwell in reefs and rocky areas. At night, the species uses its light organs to communicate and attract prey. The light organ can be occluded by a dark lid to 'turn off' the light.
