Eurasian Dotterel [Charadrius morinellus]
Description
The Eurasian Dotterel, or simply dotterel, is a small wader bird in the plover family. The species is highly distinctive in breeding plumage, adults have chestnut upperparts, a white eye-stripe, and a broad black band across the chest, separating the white throat and underparts. They generally inhabit tundra or high moorland in summer, and winter on coastal grassland and similar habitats. It is an insectivorous bird, known for its distinctive 'purring' call.
