Diamond conger [Paraconger notialis]
Description
The Diamond conger, or Paraconger notialis, is a demersal marine species found in the western Atlantic Ocean, from South Carolina in the United States to Brazil, including the Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean Sea. The species prefers to inhabit sandy or muddy substrates where it can easily bury itself. It is nocturnal, emerging at night to feed on small benthic invertebrates. The Diamond conger is distinguished by its elongated body, small eyes, and diamond-shaped spots on its dorsal and lateral surfaces.
