Description
Thrinacophora densa, or the Compact Black Coral, is another species in the family Antipathidae. This species is native to the waters of the Western Central Pacific, particularly around the Philippines. It is a deep-sea dwelling species, often found in depths below 100 meters. The Compact Black Coral is distinguishable by its densely branched, bushy structure. The branches are short and tightly packed, giving the coral a compact appearance. The coral is black, with a shiny, smooth surface. It feeds on small planktonic organisms, captured with its polyps.
