Common Sandpiper [Actitis hypoleucos]
Description
The Common Sandpiper is a small and distinctive wading bird with a body length of 18–20 cm. It has a dark brown upper body, white underparts, and a characteristic white 'V' shape up its back from its tail. It's found around the coasts and inland water bodies of Europe and Asia during the breeding season, and migrates to Africa, southern Asia and Australia in winter. It feeds on invertebrates such as insects, crustaceans, and mollusks.
