Caribbean Alpheid Shrimp [Promyllantor carolinensis]
Description
Promyllantor carolinensis, also known as the Carolina Alpheid Shrimp, is endemic to the Caribbean Sea. This species typically measures up to 1.5 cm in length and displays a yellowish-brown coloration with white spots. The Carolina Alpheid Shrimp is a burrowing species, often found in association with gobiid fishes in sandy or muddy substrates of shallow coastal waters. Similar to its Atlantic cousin, it practices a mutualistic relationship with gobiid fishes, where the shrimp maintains a shared burrow and the fish offers protection.
