Blackmouth Saber-Eel [Aplatophis zorro]
Description
The Blackmouth Saber-Eel, or Aplatophis zorro, is a species of eel in the family Ophichthidae (worm/snake eels). It is a marine, deep water-dwelling eel known from the eastern Pacific Ocean, from the Gulf of California, Mexico, and Panama. It dwells at a depth range of 37–760 metres, and leads a benthic lifestyle, burrowing in the soft seabed. It is characterized by its elongated body reaching a maximum length of 64 centimetres, and a distinctive black mouth.
