Blackmouth Angler [Rhynchactis leptonema]
Description
The Blackmouth Angler, also known as Rhynchactis leptonema, is a species of whipnose angler known to inhabit primarily the western Atlantic. It lives in the deep sea, usually at depths between 1,000 and 2,000 meters. It has a distinctive black mouth, hence its common name, and a long whip-like extension on its nose. It uses this extension, along with its bioluminescent lure, to attract prey in the dark depths of the ocean.
