Black Oystercatcher [Haematopus bachmani]
Description
The Black Oystercatcher is a conspicuous black bird found on the shoreline of western North America. The Black Oystercatcher is a species of high conservation concern throughout its range, which stretches from Alaska to Baja California. It has a long bright red beak and yellow eyes. Unlike the American Oystercatcher, it has all black plumage. It is similar in size to the American Oystercatcher, about 43 cm in length. It can be found on rocky shores where it feeds on marine invertebrates, especially mollusks.
