Black Carpet Shell [Tapes rhomboides]
Description
Also known as the Banded Venus, this is a marine bivalve mollusk in the family Veneridae. It has a robust, oval shell with a sculptured, radiating pattern on its surface. It is native to the Mediterranean Sea and the Atlantic coast of Western Europe. It lives buried in the seabed, filtering the water for food.
