Description
The Myxilla barbata, or Bearded Sponge, is a small, encrusting sponge species distinguished by its long spicules protruding from its surface, giving it a 'bearded' appearance. The color varies from pink to red. This species is found in the Northeast Atlantic, often inhabiting rocky substrates in subtidal zones. It prefers cooler waters and typically grows in thin, lobed or sheet-like forms.
