Atlantic Deep-sea Scallop [Placopecten magellanicus]

Description
The Atlantic Deep-sea Scallop is found in the North Atlantic Ocean, from the coast of North Carolina to Newfoundland. It inhabits sandy or gravelly substrates at depths of 20 to 200 meters. The species has a rounded, fan-shaped shell that can reach up to 20 centimeters in diameter. The shell is usually cream or light brown, with purple spots on the inside. It is a popular seafood item and is commercially harvested.
