Amazonian Diaptomid [Simpsonodiaptomus amazonicus]
Description
A species of copepod in the family Diaptomidae. It is found in the Amazon River and its tributaries. It is a small, planktonic creature, transparent, with two pairs of antennae and a single eye. It is an important part of the food web, feeding on algae and detritus and being preyed upon by small fishes and invertebrates.
