Description
Abbott's Booby is a large seabird that is native to Christmas Island in the Indian Ocean. It has a body length of 75-84 centimeters and a wingspan that ranges from 1.5 to 1.8 meters. The bird is characterized by its large size, long and slender wings, and a long, hooked bill. The adult has white plumage with black flight feathers. It feeds on squid and flying fish by plunge-diving. The species is monogamous and breeds in tall emergent trees. It is one of the most threatened seabirds globally due to habitat loss from mining activities.
