Deepwater black coral [Sibopathes desbonni]

Deepwater black coral
Description

Sibopathes desbonni, also known as deepwater black coral, is a species found in deep waters across the Atlantic Ocean. Colonies of S. desbonni grow in a distinctive spiral or corkscrew shape, which differentiates it from other black coral species. They inhabit areas characterized by strong currents, where they anchor onto hard substrates.
